In the last five years, I've sent over 1,000 postcards to friends, family, and strangers. Current correspondents include:

  • My best friend from 2nd grade
  • My 5-year-old-nephew
  • A fellow I met on Facebook
  • A lady I met at an arts-and-craft workshop
  • A score of old co-workers
  • My first real boyfriend

Inspired by On Kawara and Ray Johnson, I've come to adore mail art. Nothing is lovelier than getting a burst of beauty in the mail.

If you'd like to strike up a correspondence, contact me; together we can turn the U.S. Postal Service into the abettor of our mischief.

"The arrival of letters was the grand object of every morning's impatience. Through letters, whatever of good or bad was to be told would be communicated, and every succeeding day was expected to bring some news of importance." Pride and Prejudice
It is such a beautiful day I had to write you a letter
From the tower and to show I'm not mad
I only slipped on the cake of soap of the air
And drowned in the bathtub of the world.
—John Ashbery
—O look!—that fresh dark elderberry branch
is like a letter from Marina in the mail.
—Anna Akhmatova (November 1961, in delirium)

Occassionally, I craft collage postcards: art that's imperfect, ephemeral, and might not survive the journey.
